While summer produces a bounty of fresh fruits and vegetables, it is also a time of extra social outings and events, often accompanied by heavier foods, cocktails and wine (for me at least). Indulging in these things can definitely be part of a whole life, but starting your day with this smoothie bowl will help keep things balanced.

I have to admit, prior to creating this recipe, I had never tried a “smoothie bowl” before. I often see them scattered around Instagram and figured it was time I tried it for myself. When it comes to breakfast, I am quite a routine eater. Most days of the week I enjoy some variation of  porridge or a smoothie. So a smoothie bowl seemed like the perfect way to combine my two breakfast loves, especially during hot summer mornings.

This recipe is great for utilizing all of the summer berries available to you,  as well as those miscellaneous “super foods” you have in your cupboards and pantry. I have listed toppings in the ingredient list, but feel free to top this smoothie bowl with your favourite porridge toppings or whatever you have on hand.

Green Goddess Smoothie Bowl

Servings: 1
Prep/Cook Time: 5-10 minutes

INGREDIENTS

Smoothie Ingredients:

1 cup spinach, raw
1/4 cup whole rolled oats, raw
1/2 banana
1/3 cup almond milk
1 date
Juice of half a lemon
2 small ice cubes

Smoothie Toppings:

Banana, thinly sliced
Blueberries
Strawberries
Dried mulberries
Goji berries
Coconut flakes
Hemp hearts (not pictured in post)

INSTRUCTIONS

Smoothie Ingredients:
Combine and blend all ingredients until smooth and creamy. Pour into shallow bowl.

Smoothie Toppings:
Sprinkle toppings over top of the smoothie.
